I was pleased to visit a recently refurbished home in Nursling earlier this week which has been specifically adapted for a tenant with autism. Purpose Homes is a specialist property development company which identifies suitable housing for people with learning disabilities or autism. Purpose Homes then project manages the adaptation of the property, in order that it becomes an environment tailored to the needs of a specific resident.
Purpose Homes then partners with a Housing Association / Registered Social Landlord. They establish the needs of the resident(s) to ensure that the best possible environment is provided for them. The resident’s needs are then encapsulated in the project design and specification which is used to both source the most appropriate property, and then adapt it to those needs.
It was fascinating to hear about this new model of care and the enormous benefits it can bring to people with ASD who would otherwise be in a hospital setting.
