From Rishi Sunak
We have replaced the original Northern Ireland Protocol and announced the new Windsor Framework.
What's changed? Firstly, the Green Lane
Before: Lengthy paperwork
Now: Simple digital declaration
We’ve removed any sense of a border in the Irish Sea.
Food
Before: Banned sausages
Now: Customers will have access to a full range of UK products
Supermarkets, restaurants and wholesalers will have access to the Green Lane.
Physical checks and tests will be scrapped, unless we suspect fraud, smuggling, or disease.
Parcels
Before: Long forms to fill in
Now: Forms scrapped
We have made it easier to send parcels within the UK.
People sending parcels to friends and family or buying products online, will have to complete no customs paperwork.
VAT
Before: UK tax changes did not apply
Now: VAT changes and reforms to alcohol duty will apply
Changes to VAT or excise and reforms to alcohol duty will now apply to the whole of the UK including to Northern Ireland.
Medicines
Before: Approved by EU
Now: Approved by UK
The UK Government has a responsibility to protect the supply of medicines to its citizens.
The UK’s regulator the MHRA will now approve all drugs for the UK market.
Plants
Before: Shrubs, trees and seed potatoes banned
Now: Can move easily
We will expand the Plant Passport scheme and apply it everywhere in the UK, lifting the ban on shrubs, plants and seed potatoes going to Northern Ireland.
Pets
Before: Costly Checks
Now: Easy, simple travel
We have made sure that people from Northern Ireland will have completely free access to travel to Great Britain with their pets.
If your pet is microchipped all you’ll need to do is tick a box when booking travel.
Law
Before: EU laws imposed
Now: 1,700 pages of EU law scraped
The amount of EU law that applies in Northern Ireland is now less than 3%.
Stormont Brake
Before: Rules set by EU
Now: Can stop new EU rules
The new agreement introduces a Stormont Brake.
This goes further than just giving Northern Ireland a say over new EU rules, it means they can block them altogether.
