I was asked along to the opening of the Romsey Flood Alleviation Scheme this afternoon.
The scheme has been delivered as a response to the 2014 floods, and is a collaboration between the Environment Agency, Hampshire County Council and Test Valley Borough Council.
Essentially the scheme uses bunds and water control structures to stop water running into the Fishlake Stream and canal north of Fishlake Meadows sonf direct it to the flood plain to the west of the town, before diverting it back into the river using spillways along the Causeway.
Costing almost £10 million in total it will hopefully no repeat of the awful events of 2014.
Huge thanks go to former town and borough councillor Ian Richards who has chaired the Romsey Flood Group and has been assiduous in pressing for the introduction of the scheme.
