Thankfully this December we approach the New Year without the restrictions we faced over the last two years.
There is though no less uncertainty and concern for very many, albeit from a different source.
Challenging times bring out the best in people, and I would like to express my thanks to the wonderful community in Romsey and our neighbouring areas for their tolerance, generosity and stoicism.
From the fantastic local response in welcoming our Ukrainian refugee guests, to those who have worked tirelessly in our public services; from the volunteers who continue to help those in need to the organisers of successful local events such as the Winter Carnival and Lantern Parade, Romsey Show and Beggar’s Fair, the latter two returning even better after two years of disappointment, our area has once again highlighted the very best in community spirit this year.
Christmas is a time at which we concentrate upon togetherness. I would therefore also like to recognise the enormous contribution of the many people who serve our residents; particularly my colleagues in Romsey Future and the numerous parish councils in Romsey Rural. We may often wear different political colours, but we are united in our desire to improve our area and the lives of its residents. Our only disagreement being the route by which that is best achieved.
We begin 2023 once again facing uncertainty. I am however certain that wonderful Romsey will endure. That just as better weather now lies ahead, so do improved times where once again we can enjoy all our lovely area has to offer.
May I wish all your readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
