I am proud to have been nominated for the Politician of the Year Award at the #PinkNewsAwards 2022. This is the 9th year of the awards, which recognise the contributions of those who campaigned for LGBTQ+ equality over the course of the last year. 2022 is also a significant year in the LGBTQ+ community as it represents 50 years of Pride in the UK and I was thrilled to be able to be at Pride this year alongside LGBTQ+ champions in the Conservative Party.
But - don't vote for me.
My colleague Mike Freer has also been nominated. Mike was a great Equalities Minister who stood up for a fully inclusive conversion therapy ban in really difficult circumstances. He turned up at the Women and Equalities Select Committee to give evidence the day he resigned, and earned enormous respect across the House. I very much hope to be at the Awards cheering when Mike deservedly wins.
