Happy Diwali to those celebrating today.
Appropriate too that by the end of the day we may well have our first Prime Minister of British Asian heritage.
You may remember that I voted for Rishi Sunak in the leadership election in August. My reasoning then is, if anything, even more appropriate now after the disastrous and short lived tenure of Liz Truss.
"Two issues above all decided me early on. Those are financial support to the most vulnerable as inflation and the energy price rises bite and climate change.
It seems entirely wrong to me to suggest that an answer to this is a blanket tax cut which will benefit many who can afford the rises. We should, and must, target support at those who will struggle most - both those who pay tax and those who do not.
I also support Sunak's view that not only should we have, and stick to, ambitious targets for CO2 reductions but also introduce a target for the amount of renewable energy we produce ourselves, so that we phase out quickly our reliance on foreign fossil fuels."
So if there is a vote of the membership, Rishi Sunak will once again have my vote. It's a good job I kept hold of the sticker on my phone.
