The traffic light at the Abbotswood roundabout on Braishfield Road were put in place yesterday to allow for the developers at Abbostwood House to start work on the entrance to the new housing there.
Clearly this is not ideal while Cupernham Lane between Belbins and Fishlake Meadows remains closed.
I'd managed to get the installation of the lights put back by a couple of weeks until the school holidays started.
Additional requirements have been added to the permit for the lights to be in place including constant manual control to ensure queuing is kept to a minimum. The next two weeks of the holiday should help things as the roads are quieter. The test comes in a fortnight when the schools are back.
There is some more hopeful noise from Southern Water possibly finishing late this month, however if you have walked past the site their trench is 4m deep as they try to fix the collapsed sewer on Cupernham Lane.
Highways will continue to monitor both sites, Braishfield Road to check they are doing all they can to control traffic appropriately through the lights, Cupernham Lane to ensure Southern Water are doing all they can to finish their work in a timely manner.
Sorry. Both sets of works are allowed by their permits and it's not possible for Highways to stop either. I will keep an eye on traffic and will insist on changes if there are any major hold ups.
